Riverside Christian Family - "loving Jesus Christ and showing him to others"

Newsletter

Discipleship is an important part of Christianity, infact, the most important! Often we try to develop a program or a course of study and call it a discipleship program, but discipleship is simply and powerfully 'walking with Jesus', 'learning from the Master'. In fact we are called not only to be disciples, but disciple makers!

CLASS's (Christian Life and Service Seminars)

We have developed some simple classes to communicate some of the important aspects of our church family, of tools we have found valuable in our discipleship walk, and an opportunity to impart some wisdom from many years of service. These classes have been based on some of the principles found in 'Purpose Driven Church' and 'Purpose Driven Life' by Rick Warren and have been adapted to the style and purpose of Riverside Christian Family Church and ultimately to what the Bible tells us is the absolute Truth. This is designed to help you to continue to grow, to find your way, to realise we are in this together, and to help you to find that you have become a disciple who points people to Jesus and passes on all that you have experienced along the way! Life and Life in abundance is available to all who will follow Jesus Christ, though few find that abundant life. We believe that the principles found in this material will help you commit to the purposes God has always had for your life.

There are 4 Classes that have been developed which include:

CLASS 101 - Discovering Church Membership
CLASS 201 - Introduction to Spiritual Maturity
CLASS 301 - Introduction to your SHAPE
CLASS 401 - Discovering my Life Mission

All these Classes are free, with all material provided to serve you and help you make positive, life changing steps in your relationship with God, the Church, and the world around you. These classes are not assessed as such, you will have the opportunity to make notes and receive all the information in a folder. Instead of being assessed, all that is required for you to do is to consider whether you agree with what has been presented, and commit to applying these biblical principles into your life for your growth and development. This is a chance for you to ask the tough questions and think through the practical everyday teaching of the Bible for everyday living.

We started implementing these classes in 2007 and have had a fantastic response from those who have attended. There has been a growing excitement as we build momentum and release people into an understanding of how God has planned to use individuals in this church to use the talents they have already got to build the church and bless the community! We have a great sense of purpose and look forward to seeing more and more people expressing with enthusiasm their life story as it develops in serving the Lord and oneanother.

CLASS 101 - Discovering Church Membership

This class is an essential class if you want to understand the dna and vision/purpose of this local church. RCF is a church that is a part of the body of Christ in Townsville and has a specific style and purpose that makes the expression of God's Kingdom stronger and fulfils His overall vision & strategy for this community. To understand this more, you can sit back and observe for an extended period of time, or you can come to one of these classes and hear a condensed overview in 2.5 hours about what we believe and how we see God using this part of His family in the Townsville area.

This is an opportunity for you to decide if you want to hang around with us, if you see that you want to fit in, because we want to go the whole journey with you if you want to go there with us together.

This first class covers salvation, baptism & communion, the purposes of our church, structure and affiliations of the church, church history and vision. No matter what church you have been involved in previously and how long you have been a Christian, or if you have never been to church before, this class is set up for everybody and is a prerequisite for taking the next classes in the series (Class 201 - Class 401), and for becoming involved in any area of ministry within this church family.

Class 101 is essentially the bare basics that we believe and what the Bible teaches us. It is our Senior Pastors chance to share the vision and style of this church, and to be upfront about where God is directing us as a church. If you do not feel, as a result of attending this class, that we are heading in the same direction, or if there are any concerns, this is an opportunity to ask the questions, and get the answers up front. Otherwise it could take a while to figure things out.

If you are wondering about how you fit into God and the church, if you are not really sure if you are a Christian, or if you just know you want to draw closer to God, we believe that this class is a great opportunity for you to get a start.

Class 101 is usually conducted once a month on Sunday Afternoons and is 2.5hours in length. We do run this class on a weeknight if there is enough interest, and you can make this preference when you sign up. All materials are supplied and the cost is free, however we do require that you have registered for this class in advance through our 'Connect Cards' available at the church information desk, or in the weekly newsletters - or by registering online. This will enable us to have resources ready and find the appropriate room size for the class.

CLASS 201 - Introduction to Spiritual Maturity
This second class is designed to teach the importance of commitment and community. A commitment to God of your time, talents and treasures; and community found through small groups. It includes discussion on getting the most out of your Bible, getting the most out of Prayer, The principal of Tithing, and small group dynamics. Implementing and committing to the principals in this CLASS will revolutionalise your life - guaranteed! The key is commitment. It requires a decision to put things into practice, if there will be any changes to your life.

Why do we teach this class as a prerequisite to CLASS 301? Simply, you can not effectively serve and care for others if you are not being cared for yourself. Besides that, God wants to bless the people in our world through us that He would be glorified. That means His desire is that His strength and Wisdom, Him as the source, would give you everything you need to make a difference (not just your natural talents).

Class 201 is usually conducted once a month on Sunday Afternoons and is 2.5hours in length. All materials are supplied and the cost is free, however we do require that you have registered for this class in advance through our 'Connect Cards' or by registering online. This will enable us to have resources ready and find the appropriate room size for the class. To enrole in Class 201, you must have already completed Class 101 and made a commitment to be a member of our church family.

CLASS 301 - Introduction to your SHAPE
The goal of this third class is to help people discover their unique S.H.A.P.E for ministry and commit to developing and using their God-given gifts and abilities in serving God and others in the church family. SHAPE simply stands for:
Spiritual gifts
Heart
Abilities
Personality
Experience

If you want to get involved in any ministry area within Riverside Christian Family Church, committing to the principals found in CLASS 301 are mandatory. We know that if you are going to serve others, you must be refreshed and renewed daily in your walk with Christ, because it is not by our might or our power that we can make any impact - but by His Spirit.

Class 301 is conducted once a month on Sunday Afternoons and the class is 3hours in length. However, this is the only class that requires homework and then a follow up interview to find how we can serve you. All materials are supplied and the cost is free, however we do require that you have registered for this class in advance through our 'Connect Cards' or by registering online. This will enable us to have resources ready and find the appropriate room size for the class. To enrole in Class 301, you must have previously completed and made a commitment to the principles in Class 101 & Class 201.

LIFE Groups / Journalling

Life JournallingWe believe that the best place to learn is in a place where you are encouraged to give. We believe that the way Jesus taught and inspired those around him when he walked as a man on earth was to give opportunity for his disciples to have a go. He did not just teach, he also equipped and enabled his followers to do as He did. And they were filled with awe and expectation, they impacted their worls filled with faith and an understanding that God was truly with them.

Our weekly Life Groups are small groups of people who gather in Homes, Sporting establishments, around common interests, with people of common situations (eg. mums with toddlers) and give and recieve the Life that they are recieving from a relationship with Jesus. Journalling has become a foundationsal part of this process as people are in the same passages of the Bible throughout the week and have a common point for discussion. We have no 'leaders' in the groups that are preparing a message, but everyone is encouraged to share at least something that inspired them in their readings or daily walk with God during the previous week.

Life was meant to be experienced, and Jesus cam not to give religion but LIFE and Life abundant.
