Riverside Christian Family - "loving Jesus Christ and showing him to others"

Newsletter

Our mission is 'To transform our community by engaging it with the Good News of Jesus Christ through a growing and empowered local church'

Essentially this is what drives all that we do.
Our lives and purpose is centered on the person and calling of Jesus Christ and we endeavor to bring His Good News and Him as Good News to the community and the world around us.

Although we are a church that is located in the Upper Ross Suburbs of Rasmussen, Kelso & Condon in the city of Townsville, and we are on the outskirts of the Thuringowa and Townsville community, we are committed to equipping and strengthening a church that is made up of people from across the city to make a positive contribution to every area of our lives and every area and region within our city and region.

The keys words to the statement above are explained below and may help you to understand more clearly whay we do what we do:

Transformation

We believe wholeheartedly that Jesus brings transformation into individual lives, and that He also brings about transformation for whole communities, cities and countries, as people seek first His Kingdom. We also believe that significant spiritual breakthroughs can be witnessed in the natural also, and that a growing church is a reflection of the heart and authority of God being established in this place and the freedom and life that He has offered.

We believe that God si fulfilling His promises in Isaiah 62 in our local community as we put Him first. Isaiah 62 declares (v1-5):

For Zion’s sake I will not hold My peace,
And for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest,
Until her righteousness goes forth as brightness,
And her salvation as a lamp that burns.
The Gentiles shall see your righteousness,
And all kings your glory.
You shall be called by a new name,
Which the mouth of the Lord will name.
You shall also be a crown of glory
In the hand of the Lord,
And a royal diadem
In the hand of your God.
You shall no longer be termed Forsaken,
Nor shall your land any more be termed Desolate;
But you shall be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah;
For the Lord delights in you,
And your land shall be married.
For as a young man marries a virgin,
So shall your sons marry you;
And as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride,
So shall your God rejoice over you.

Our Community

In the past people have assumed 'our community' to be the community of the Upper Ross. However, 'our community' is rather the community that each of us as individuals live in. It is our street, it is our suburb, it is our workplace, it is our family & friends. Our mission statement is not only a missional objective of the church, but also a missional objective for each of us who make up the church.

Good News

The Good News is Jesus, He is the living story of breakthrough, transformation and life both in this world and for eternity. We believe that we are called to live this Good News and that we should reflect the essence and nature of this Good News by the way we lead our lives, and the way we impact our community.

Jesus boldly declared Isaiah 61 and proclaimed:

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn,
To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

We believe that as followers of Jesus, that this Good News, that this message, that the working out of htis message, should be a part of the expression of His Church in our community and the world around us.

Growing

As stated earlier, the visible sign of people being transformed, of lives changed, of Jesus impacting peoples lives, and of lives being restored to God, is a growing and multiplying local church pressence. This is numerical growth and visible growth. But the growth that Christ has planned for this church and His Church is not just numerical growth, but rather spiritual growth also. As we walk together, as we learn together, and as the absolute living Truth as revealed by God's Word - the Bible and through His Holy Spirit, our Character develops and we are constantly growing more and more like Him. We grow more in our capacity to love, in our capacity to serve, in our capacity to forgive, ... in our capacity to live as God always intended us to live (Blessed and a blessing).

Empowered

None of this is possible without God. We have no formula but Him, we know that He leads often in mysterious ways, and to know Him is to simply walk with Him and obey His commandments. As has always been the case, amazing, miraculous things happen by the power and annointing of The Holy Spirit, and He enables us to lead lives that are pleasing to Him. His presence allows His purposes to be fulfilled in our lives, in His church and in our community.

We teach, we train and we seek to equip people, with the Truth of God's Word, to point people to Jesus, and to move together as we seek to see God's Kingdom established in our community and in the world around us. We will see people rise up to their full potential and step out and be sent into the service of the King of Kings with the Power and Authority that He has indeed given.
